The path to being a coach has begun

Yesterday I joined some 20 plus other hardy enthusiastic running souls as we all took our first steps on the path to becoming run leaders/coaches as we completed England Athletics LiRF (Leadership in Running Fitness) course. Thankfully the venue had an indoor track for us to practice our skills as the weather was cold, wet and windy.

The day was mixture of classroom learning and practical implementation covering all the basics needed to effectively run a training session with a group of budding runners and means I can now help the other coaches at my local running club with our regular Monday and Wednesday sessions.

It’s just the first step for me as I have already registered for the full CiRF course which is run over four days later in the year and involves being properly assessed in order to become a fully qualified coach.

Now it’s time to go put what I have learnt into practice.
